On Wednesday, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they would finish their official departure from the royal family next month. Their first day of freedom from royal duties will be on April Fool’s Day, following the announcement they intended to leave the family at the beginning of the year.

Even though they’ve been living in Canada, both parties have still been obligated to their former duties. The Queen has stated in the past that the official changes would begin in the spring months. The Evening Standard was the first to report on the statement from the Palace confirming that April Fool’s Day was the start of their new life.

Their office in Buckingham Palace will close on the 31st of March. Meghan and Harry will come back to the United Kingdom near the ending of February and at the beginning of March. On the 9th of March, Meghan and Harry will meet with the Queen at Westminister Abbey.

Their spokesperson has stated that Meghan and Harry aren’t simply moving on from the United Kingdom. They intend on spending approximately half of their time there in the future, The Telegraph reported.

Moreover, they agreed to a one-year transition period with the royal family to make sure everything goes according to plan. During that time, neither Harry nor Meghan will use their royal titles, including Royal Highness and Her Royal Highness.

Although, they’ll have the right to use them if they so choose. Additionally, Harry will still be sixth in line to the throne, and there won’t be any changes to the line of succession in the coming years. As it was noted above, Harry and Meghan announced they were dropping out of the royal family at the beginning of the year.

The announcement came as a huge surprise to the royal family as well as the media. In their statement, Meghan and Harry revealed they wanted to gain financial independence.

Since then, Harry has spoken with Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, about securing work for Meghan as a voice actress. It was later reported, however, that Meghan wasn’t paid for the work, and instead, money was given to a charity in her honor.
