Germany/Italy-based alt-pop duo Anaté introduces their brand-new single, “One Last Time,” a track from their forthcoming debut album, Confessions, releasing fall of 2021.
Explaining “One Last Time,” Anaté shares, the song is “about addictions and recurrent mistakes. It doesn’t point out any specific one… an unhealthy relationship, substance abuse, addiction to a bad job, self-harm, etc. It was inspired by the thought of how most of us experience some of this in our life.”
Made up of singer-songwriter Ana and producer Andrea, Anaté formed in 2019, when Andrea was seeking a vocalist for a trip-hop project. After failing to find anyone with the right voice, a friend told him about Ana, who sent him “an awesome melody and perfect lyrics.”
Given that Ana lives in Berlin and Andrea lives in Milan, the two initially met up in Brussels, where they decided to collaborate. Anaté’s sound blends flavors of Brit-pop and trip-hop and is influenced by Pink Floyd, Lenny Kravitz, Massive Attack, and Sade.
Since forming Anaté, the twosome has created more than 20 songs, recorded remotely. Andrea produced “One Last Time” while traveling in Croatia.
“One Last Time” opens on rippling colors flowing into a dark, moody melody riding a potent rhythm composed of a side-stick snare and rolling bassline, imbuing the tune with haunting pulsations. Ana’s velvety, evocative timbres infuse the lyrics with spectral surfaces, at once edgy and mellifluous. It’s one of those voices both alluring and dripping with mystery.
Soft, shimmering breakdowns shift the harmonics from shadow to light and then return to brooding coloration. Radiant backing harmonies give the song resonant depth and bewitching dimension.
Shrouded in misty redolent hues, “One Last Time” oozes with wraithlike effusions, capped by the enigmatic, exquisite vocals of Ana.
