An eight-year-old boy from Melbourne’s west has suddenly died while on a family holiday overseas.

Mohammad Anwari, from Caroline Springs in western Melbourne, was visiting Afghanistan with his family two weeks ago when his heart stopped.

The “beautiful” Year 4 student – who attended Creekside College – was born with a rare heart condition that caused heart failure.

Mohammad had travelled to Afghanistan with his parents, sister and younger brother Yousef, according to the Herald Sun.

The family’s neighbour, Tammy Callejan, told the newspaper that Mohammad was a “vivacious” child.

“He was the most vivacious, funny, typical little boy who was always seen everyday outside playing with his little brother Yousef,” she said.

“The bond those two little ones had was just beautiful.

“Always together, always playing, inseparable.”

Ms Callejan said the local community was “in shock” when they heard about Mohammad’s sudden death.

“I’m going to miss his beautiful smile and little waves of hello and goodbye every time I pull up at my home,” she said.

“Such a beautiful boy that touched us all.”

In a letter to parents sent on Friday, principal Gary Eckersall said Mohammad will be missed by his peers.

“We are saddened to inform you that one of our students in year 4, Mohammad Anwari, has passed away whilst on holidays with his family,” he wrote.

“He was a student that was well liked by all of the children in his year level and will be missed by the Creekside school community.

“We ask that you find a suitable time and space to share this information with your child, as we are aware that such a sensitive matter is best relayed by loved ones.”

Mohammad’s funeral took place in Afghanistan.
