LSU heating up on the football recruiting trail

June 2024 · 3 minute read

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - In this edition of FFF: LSU is on fire in football recruiting, United States Women’s National Team suffers another setback, and a visit to Hammond for a cheeseburger.

FOOTBALL

LSU finished the 2024 recruiting cycle with the No. 4 class in the country. That included landing the No. 1 recruit in the state, Acadiana defensive lineman Dominick McKinley.

For the ‘25 class, the Tigers are at the top of charts. LSU is No. 1 in the country according to On3.

In the fold, the No. 1 quarterback in the country, Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 wide receiver in the country, Dakorien Moore, and the No. 1 running back overall, Harlem Berry.

Another key commit, U-High linebacker Keylan Moses. His brother went to Alabama, but Moses is staying put in “The Boot.” He’s personally been recruiting this blockbuster class.

Between coaches Frank Wilson, Corey Raymond, Bo and Brad Davis, and Moses in the mix, the Tigers should lockdown the state with the best recruits.

Transfer portal can no doubt help your team, but building through recruiting can lift LSU to a title once again.

FÚTBOL

The days of the United States Women’s National Team being a dominant force in the world are over with.

It started with a bronze medal in the ‘21 Olympics.

Last summer, things only got worse at the World Cup. U.S.A. got knocked out in the round of 16 by Sweden on penalty kicks.

No previous U.S. team had finished lower than third place at a World Cup.

One of the only guarantees for the national team, they could always dominate Mexico. In the last 16 matches, they beat their neighbors to the south by a combined, 65-4.

Well, you see where this is going. In the Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup the U.S. lost to Mexico, 2-0.

Now I’m not saying the squad has hit rock bottom. They’re still in the tournament, but these are dark days for the Stars and Stripes.

The rest of the world is getting better, and the U.S. is regressing.

FOOD

This past Saturday in Hammond, I did soccer state championship play-by-play on LHSAA Network TV. Since I was in Hammond, America, a visit to The Mariner’s Inn was a must.

The weather was absolutely perfect, so sitting outside was a given. Another guarantee, I was ordering the cheeseburger. I asked to have the cheddar melted on the meat, and it was fantastic.

Now on this visit I went with the fries, but locals tell me to try the baked potato or onion rings.

I did go inside and the atmosphere was phenomenal for 3 p.m. in the afternoon. Live band jamming and the drinks were flowing.

Another observation, downtown Hammond by the train tracks is quite beautiful. Check it out on your next visit to Hammond, America.
