Anderson was born in Los Angeles, California, on August 15, 1970. His mother, Doris Hancox, dreamed of becoming an actress, and his stepfather, Sterling Bowman, hails from Little Rock, Arkansas.
Sterling initially moved to Los Angeles to work in the steel mill industry but later established a successful chain of three clothing stores. Anthony also has a half-brother named Derrick Bowman.
Tragically, his stepfather passed away in 2002. Anthony was affectionately called “Tugga” during childhood due to his inability to pronounce “sugar.”
Anderson’s education journey took him to Howard University in the late 1980s, where he studied before leaving without graduating to pursue a comedy career.
